The Problem with Using Silicone

Silicone is a sticky, dry oily substance. Artists mix and prepare their paints as well as add a drop or so to each ounce of paint. Once the paints are assembled and poured over the substrate, the silicone rises to the surface, making circular holes and exposing the layers underneath. The results are dramatic and beautiful. However, silicone never dries and it leaves a sticky film.

Most silicone oils do not evaporate out of the paint. So they stay in the paint matrix and can cause film formation problems.

Pouring silicone and subsequent product layers such as mediums and varnish prevent intercostal adhesion. As an artist, you have the freedom to do whatever you want with your artwork. But we do not recommend artists add silicone to the paint until they have gathered enough evidence that there are no long-term problems.

So how can you create those great beautiful cells in your acrylic painting?

In this fact, you can use the best silicone substitute for acrylic pouring.

Keep in mind that Density! is the fact. Silicone rises to the surface because it is oily and sticky and never dries, but it is less dense than paint. So, if you know the density of different pigments, you can plan your own application so that they switch places based on the density. In other words, you put the least dense paint at the bottom and the densest paint at the top.

Then denser paint pushes down and the lesser dense paint rises to the top. This causes the same cellular holes to form, though admittedly, they are not as substantial.

Therefore, there is no need to compromise with the integrity of your paintings by adding silicone when you can achieve a greater effect by applying your paint in a more familiar way.
